TV stardom beckoning for town Topshop girl Rebecca

Stardom is in store for a Topshop sales assistant who has just made her big acting breakthrough by landing a part in a popular TV soap.

Rebecca Bell, 19, who splits her time between working at Topshop in Carillon Court Shopping Centre in Loughborough and building up her acting portfolio, recently joined the cast to record an episode of BBC One daytime drama Doctors.

The popular lunchtime soap is set in a busy Midlands GP practice and follows the turbulent lives and loves of patients and staff.

But this wasn’t Rebecca’s first taste of acting success as last summer she had a testing part in an educational film in which she played a 15-year-old domestic violence victim.

She is also currently filming an instructional film for staff at Topshop, where she has worked since she was 16.

Rebecca, who lives with parents, Garry and Karen, who she describes as “very supportive”, has always dreamed of a career on the screen.

But despite leaving Hind Leys in Shepshed, with a GCSE in drama and an A Level in performing arts, she never thought she would be able to fulfil her big ambition.

Through her connections with the Television Workshop in Nottingham, Rebecca was asked to audition for Doctors at the BBC’s Elstree studios.

Two days later she was overjoyed to hear she had got the part of Kezia, who she describes as another 15-year-old girl with big problems.

““I can’t really give away too many details about it because the episode I’m in isn’t due to be aired until July 24.

“Being in Doctors is a marvellous opportunity for me. Topshop has been great with me and have given me time off whenever I have had an audition at weekends.

“My ultimate ambition is to make a career in television or in films,” she added.
